Solved Replacing a battery in an Ecotech battery backup

My ecotech battery backup died. So instead of buying an expensive battery from ecotech. I took it apart and got a battery on amazon for $30 and some change.
I just drilled out the rivets that hold the case together. Unhooked and removed old battery. Slipped new one in. Now I need to get some short machine screws and screw cover back on.
Just wanted to share incase some one else has same problem .

There are 8 rivets total.

I just searched 12 volt, 18ah battery on amazon and found the one with correct spec and measurement. Then just unhook battery terminals and replace with new and rebolt.
Then get some short screws and button case back up. And that's it.

Really makes you think about replicating the wiring and making your own! Save $125 without the fancy case.

 

No doubt! I wonder how many get thrown away when they go bad. Wish I could get my hands on one

You could make your own case really. Get a bigger battery with more Ah. I think the power cords going to to the devices have built in fuses. Would have to make sure everything lines up correctly though.

 

Yup. I thought about just making one but found this one used and battery just died so figured it couldn't hurt to tear it apart lol.

 

I have 3 sitting in a cabinet. I always had plans to tear one apart, but just haven't gotten that far. Im actually looking at lithium ion batteries instead of liquid.

 

It only took me a couple minutes to drill out rivets. It took longer to lookup battery on amazon than it did to tear it apart lol.
If anybody needs anymore pics or help let me know and I will see what I can do.
