how to catch a fish

I would like to catch my purple tang and move him to my bigger tank. I have Tried a small hook with krill and he always gets the krill off. I tried a snag hook to snag him but no luck. I also tried a net but we all know what happens when they see that. I dont want to tear my rockwork apart becasue its all puttied together along with all of my corals(alot of them). Does anyone know of a better way to trap them?

 

I wouldn't be using hooks to catch fish in a tank...just my opinion. Find someone with a fish trap or make your own out of a 2 liter pop bottle.

 

The trap would be very helpful, I might get ahold of him or make one out of a two liter. If it makes you feel better i cut the barbs out of the hooks so no damage would be done removing them. Just curious what do you use when you go fishing? Hooks I assume =-)

Of course I use barbed hooks. I also didn't pay 50 - 300 for those fish... /DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default//emoticons/smile.gif It's not worth the risk of damaging an ornamental fish to me.

 

Haha indeed I will try the bottle trap..

 

There have been a couple times that I've been fortunate enough to get a fish sleeping early in the a.m. or one that's such a pig that it thought it was feeding time and didn't even notice the net. The rest of the time I just tore down the rock work. It's easier and results in lower B.P. and fewer profanities.

 

I have a trap too youre welcome to use if you want to come to north liberty to get it.

 

Sweet thanks fisher maybe kpotter can pick it up on his way to drop my canopy off this weekend. How big is it the tang is about 7 inches.

 

Just cut the end off a extension cord. Insert end in tank plug in, wait 2sec unplug. Collect fish. There u go. Lol

Get two nice sized nets, put a little food in the nets & leave them in the tank for a couple of days.

Soon they will be used to it & not afraid of the nets.
